BECKETT

"I 'll uh, call you later?" Thea looks at me with hopeful eyes.

I cup her cheek and lean down to kiss her. "I hope so, beautiful." If not, I know where she lives.

She gets into her car and pulls out of the driveway. I watch her decades old car scoot down the road until it's out of sight.

"I figured you were into the girl, Beck, but I didn't know she liked you, too." William comes strolling out of the garage carrying his bag of tools.

"She's a hot young thing. You fucking her?"

Normally I wouldn't mind his crass language, but when it's aimed at Thea, a beast inside of me roars. "Yeah, actually, I am." I turn my attention to William. He's about four years younger than me but hopefully devoted to having sex with any woman who will put out. "So stay away from her."

He rolls his eyes and heads to his trunk where he throws the bag of tools. "Calm down. I'm not gonna touch your woman. Jesus," William swears. "She's hot, but no pussy is worth dying over."

Hers is. That's what William doesn't realize. Thea is worth dying for, killing for, and everything in between. "How'd the installation of her tracker go?"

William comes around to the front of the car and offers me a shrug. "It's installed if that's what you're asking. I got it hidden under the hood. Even if she were to suspect something, she'd never find it."

Thea would never suspect anything. She is sweet and innocent. "I appreciate your help, Will."

"Anytime," he says with a yawn. "Does the boss know you're following this girl?"

I shake my head no. I only trusted William because I have dirt on him. I wouldn't put it past some of the more vindictive men in the family to go after Thea if I laid claim to her. "It's none of their business, either," I warn.

William holds his hands up in surrender. "I don't want no trouble, Beck.

I don't care what you're doing or why. I just show up, do shit, and disappear.

For a fee, of course."

The catalytic converter was free, but the GPS tracker will cost some money. I pull my wallet out and grab a couple hundred dollars to shove at him. "Pleasure doing business with you."

He pockets the cash and opens the door to his car. For a minute I think he's about to slide in and drive away, but he stops. "You're gonna treat this girl right, right?"

I don't know why he would ever ask that. I have never mistreated a woman in my life, excluding the ones I had to have a personal conversation with for the family. I don't count them. "She is my world, William. No one will treat her better than me.”

O ver the next week, my relationship with Thea progresses.

When I'm not doing work for the family, I'm watching her.

Sometimes via the little blinking light on my GPS app. Sometimes from a dark corner. Sometimes through her window while she sleeps. My eyes are always on Thea.
